Spasimo smeđeg medvjeda od trofejnog lova
Prema nacionalnim i europskim zakonima i propisima medvjeda se ne smije hvatati, mučiti i ubijati. Iako je RH 2000. godine potvrdila Bernsku konvenciju, a smeđi medvjed je 2004. stavljen na Crvenu listu ugroženih životinja, kod nas se medvjed i dalje tretira kao “lovna divljač”. Prilikom ratifikacije Bernske konvencije Hrvatska je zatražila izuzeće (derogaciju) od stroge zaštite i zabrane lova. Izuzećem je lov i dalje dopušten ukoliko se dokaže da je populacija medvjeda stabilna usprkos odstrjelu.
Preporuka Bernske konvencije za RH bila je izrada Plana gospodarenja i godišnjih akcijskih planova. Medvjed se kod nas lovi u skladu sa Planom gospodarenja koji se temelji na Zakonu o lovstvu. Lov se paradoksalno odobrava člankom 155. Zakona o zaštiti prirode i na taj način i zaštita medvjeda podređena je Zakonu o lovstvu. Početkom svake godine određuju se lovne kvote kao i trajanje lovne sezone na medvjeda. Smrtnost medvjeda veća je od lova nego od svih ostalih uzroka smrtnosti zajedno. Godišnje lovne kvote redovno premašuju prirodni prirast koji u većini svjetskih populacija smeđeg medvjeda iznosi 5%. Lovna kvota već od 10% predstavlja direktnu opasnost za očuvanje vrste. Ovogodišnji Akcijski plan određuje lovni zahvat od 14% odnosno odstrjel 130 medvjeda od ukupne populacije. Zadnja procjena brojnosti populacije iz 2015. godine bila je 937 jedinki. Trofejni lov koji se provodi u Hrvatskoj mogao bi izazvati izumiranje medvjeda kao u gotovo cijeloj zapadnoj Europi!
Populaciju medvjeda biti će nemoguće očuvati uz sportski lov, izvoz trofeja i lovne kvote koje premašuju prirodni prirast. Ovom peticijom zahtijeva se od nadležnih institucija i odgovornih osoba za zaštitu medvjeda:
- Ukidanje trofejnog sportskog lova na smeđeg medvjeda u RH.
- Utvrđivanje veličine populacije smeđeg medvjeda uz sudjelovanje stručnjaka i predstavnika udruga iz područja zaštite divljih životinja koji nisu interesno povezani sa lovnim menadžmentom i komercijalnim iskorištavanjem medvjeda.

Save the Brown Bear in Croatia from trophy hunting
According to national and European laws and regulations, bears must not be caught, tortured or killed. Although the Republic of Croatia ratified the Bern Convention in 2000, and the brown bear was placed on the Red List of Endangered Species in 2004, in our country the bear is still treated as "hunting game". During the ratification of the Bern Convention, Croatia requested an exemption (derogation) from strict protection and prohibition of hunting. With this exception, hunting is still allowed if it is proven that the bear population is stable despite the shooting.
The recommendation of the Bern Convention for the Republic of Croatia was the development of a Management Plan and annual action plans. The bear is hunted in our country in accordance with the Management Plan which is based on the Hunting Act. Hunting is paradoxically approved by Article 155 of the Nature Protection Act and thus the protection of bears is subordinated to the Hunting Act. At the beginning of each year, hunting quotas are determined as well as the duration of the bear hunting season. Bear mortality from hunting is higher than from all other causes of mortality combined. Annual hunting quotas regularly exceed the natural population increase which is 5% in most of the world's brown bear populations. A hunting quota of as little as 10% poses a direct threat to species preservation. This year's Action Plan determines a hunting quota of 14% or the shooting of 130 bears from the total population. The last population estimate from 2015 was 937 individuals. The trophy hunting being carried out in Croatia could cause the extinction of bears as in almost all of Western Europe!
It will be impossible to preserve the bear population with sport hunting, trophy exports and hunting quotas that exceed the natural population increase. This petition demands that the institutions and persons responsible for bear protection:
- Abolish the trophy sport hunting of brown bears in the Republic of Croatia.
- Determine the size of the brown bear population with the participation of experts and representatives of organizations in the field of wild animal protection that are not linked to hunting management and commercial exploitation of bears.
